Lincoln, Neb. (WOWT) – Two bills focused on regulating hemp in Nebraska were in front of a legislative committee on Wednesday.

LB316 Looks to limit the legal amount of THC allowed in Hampp products such as Delta-8, a less potent version of cannabis. Legislators who support it say it would decrease and mainly prohibit synthetic marijuana substances as they say are dangerous and stronger than advertised.

“These products are sold in many states that use misunderstandings in the law,” said Bill Medsponsor State late. Kathleen Kauth by Omaha. “The ability of manufacturers who constantly adjusts the chemical composition of the substance and does something that is” new “and has not yet prohibited has become a cat and mouse game between regulators and manufacturers. This bill would stop the influx of dangerous products mascarading such as hemp and clean up the illegal market that has been developed. ”

Kauth says LB316 would not prohibit CBD products or hemp cultivation. It would also not have an effect on the transport of these products with proper documentation.

Two bills focused on regulating hemp in Nebraska were in front of a legislative committee on Wednesday.

When you talk to Legal Committee On Wednesday morning, Kauth quoted national information that showed that from 2021-24, poison control centers succeeded more than 10,000 Delta 8 exposure cases across the country. She also said that many states such as Alaska, Colorado and Missouri have already banned similar products. Nebraska national lawyer Mike Hilgers also spoke with the committee in support of 316.

Opponents of the bill also spoke. Sarah Linden runs Generation V and Grateful Green Dispensary. She worries if the bill passes, it will prohibit products that are already legal in the state. She says that the effects on small businesses can be massive and lead to people looking for other ways to get the products.

“Passing LB316 will also create a growing holistic market for unregulated and uncertain hemp -derived products that pose public health risks and undermine legitimate companies,” Linden said. “The black market that no age restrictions, no manufacturing standards, no quality control, no packaging requirements and no analysis certificates to ensure that the products are safe.”

She told the Committee’s entrepreneurs is self -regulating by introducing minimum requirements, packaging and labeling of restrictions and proper testing. She argues for sensible regulations rather than a direct ban.

Legislation Linden refers to is LB16Which looks to adopt Nebraska consumable hemp control law. LB16 would create regulation for the sale and marketing of consumable hemp. It would also require that any person or unit aimed at marketing or selling consumable hemp to be licensed by the state and paying a license fee according to the Bill’s language.
