Negative effects of social media on school children’s worrying experts

Shillong, February 2: Education experts are worried that school children are adversely affected by their dependence on social media.
According to them, children are subjected to the dangers of social media without knowing its long -term impact on their mental health and well -being. They said that anxiety and depression are two of the negative effects.
A senior official at the education department said that social media can strengthen or destroy a school child depending on how he or she uses it. He said that addiction is a real concern.
When he talked about his experience during a career counseling program at St. Edmund’s School, the official said he thought most children were facing the problem of not being able to focus or concentrate.
According to him, the field of attention among school children has decreased due to a roll and short video culture because they are addictive due to the release of dopamine.
The official said he was told by the teachers that children can only concentrate for about five minutes in a class of half an hour.
He emphasizes that one must have maturity to manage social media and said that the question is that students have access to it before they achieve that maturity.
The official believes that school students are not allowed to use mobile phones. If they want access to the Internet, they should have access in the form of a computer to visit Wikipedia or Youtube to look at documentaries, etc., he emphasized.
At the same time, Holy Child School said former principal Sr. Delphine Fernandez that everyone is worried about the far -reaching negative effects of social media on children’s lives. She said that social media is the reason behind the falling field of attention among children.
Sr Fernandez noted that leisure time is spent surfing on mobile screens, watching rolls, videos and playing games. There are times when they even forget to eat their meals, she said.
“Many students fall to the bullying of cyber and some other forms of unknown fear that cause anxiety and depression. The seams are changing and they are mentally disturbed even over stupid issues, ”Sr Fernandez said.
She said that parents avoid telling something to their children for fear of unwanted events. She said that parents can monitor their children’s social media activities and talk to them about their childhood days when they had outdoor games, friends in school and neighborhood or when they visited the houses to their relatives.
Joydeep Sen, a science teacher in Little Flower School, agreed that social media has significantly affected the students’ level of concentration, which made it difficult for them to focus on their studies.
He noted that students were more committed and pay attention to earlier and said that relentless exposure to social media has drastically reduced their ability to concentrate and increased aggressiveness and impatience.
Then admitted that the maintenance of the students in a class has become a major challenge for the teachers.
