Mid-State Technical College’s latest robot friend helps students and society

Stevens Point, Wis. (WSAW) – What happens when you combine a drone and a dog? It would be the latest technical tool at Mid-State Technical College.

It is called a quadruple, which is basically a Landdrone. This good friend can walk, run, sit and do some other tricks on the road. It is powered by a remote control. It will be used in the Civil Engineering Technology and Highway Technician program at the school. If you are wondering what it will do, here is one of the ways that Drone will be used. They will attach a 3D scanner to the quadruple back and use it to expand 3D models to help the students.

“Go the dog through various facilities and catch a really tight point cloud of information, upload it to our building modeling software and then create a very in -depth picture of what that plant is or that structure,” said Ryan Kawski, dean at School of Applied Technology, MID -State Technical College.

A quadruple can actually be used for search and rescue efforts in society as well.

“This can only get you to a place where we can’t fly, maybe there are narrow power lines or too many trees, but the quadruple means you can be a little more quick on the ground, so yes, it can certainly be used for search and rescue From a social lens, Kawski said.

If you want to see the dog in action, we have some good news, you can, Monday 3 from 8 to 16 in the middle of the state in Central in Marshfield. There is another place and other times during the week and month.
