The authorities have banned begging in Madhya Pradesh Capital Bhopal and warned of criminal measures against those involved in the as well as people who give alms.

The State Indore district has already banned begging.

Bhopal District Collector Kausendra Vikram Singh banned begging in an order issued on Monday evening according to section 163.2 in Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita.

Several beggars, who are looking for alms in traffic signals, have been found to be involved in criminal activities and drug abuse. Their presence at the traffic signals also creates the fear of accidents, the order noted.

It said that begging and offering of Almisser has been banned entirely throughout the Bhopal district.

“Legal action will be taken against the person who gives something in the form of allegations for beggars or buys any goods from them,” stated order.

Cases will be registered in accordance with relevant legal provisions against those who violate the administration’s ban on begging, it said.

A protective facility located at the Community Health Center Kolar (in Bhopal) is reserved as a beggar home for their accommodation, added it.

Last year, the Indore District Administration also banned begging and forbade people from giving alms to beggars.
