Michael Sheen left red-faced after being caught IMDbing himself

Michael Sheen was forced to explain his IMDb self-search during an appearance on Michael McIntyre’s Big Show.

Airing on Saturday 25 January on BBC One, the star-studded show (which also involved Olly Murs pranks one of his biggest fans with a fake Who do you think you are? episode) featured the Welsh actor as the latest victim of Send to All, giving the eponymous host carte blanche over his phone.

Of course, McIntyre reviewed everything he could find on it — Sheen seems to have a habit of IMDbing himself — before sending a stupid message to his entire contact book.

“I’m very nervous Michael. It all seemed like a very good idea when I was first asked, now it seems like a very bad idea!” Sheen admitted before handing over his phone.

It took no time at all for the comedian to get busy on his guest’s device; discovers, among other things, the IMDb application.

“Mmm… IMDb. Oh, you have to be on that one!” he remarked. “I’ll hit search and see what you got… Oh… Looks like you searched yourself!”

Explaining herself, Sheen laughed, “Listen, listen, sometimes I have to look myself up okay? Because I forget what I’ve been through!”

McIntyre wasn’t done there though, as the star’s Notes app was also ripe for rooting.

“Don’t do that!” Sheen cringed as the TV presenter hovered over the icon.

Coincidentally, one of his submissions was a self-written biography – “award-winning actor, director and producer of stage and film” – prompting McIntyre to say: “Sorry Michael, you find yourself quite self-centred… .”

“I had to submit my own bio somewhere recently, so I had to write a bio for myself!” he pointed out, to the great relief of his partner Anna Lundberg and her mother Ingrid, who were sitting next to him.

As David Frost in the 2008 historical drama Frost/Nixon (Universal Pictures)

Released in 2008, Sheen’s arguably best film is the Ron Howard-directed Frost/Nixon, which was nominated for The Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing.

It brings to life the earth-shaking interviews from 1977 between journalist David Frost and Richard Nixon after the Watergate scandal five years earlier.

Other recommended big screen outings for Sheen include: Underworld (2003), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), The Queen (2006), Blood Diamond (2006), The Damned United (2009), The Twilight Saga (2009-2012), Alice in Wonderland (2010), Midnight in Paris (2011), Night Animals (2016) and Apostle (2018).

Meanwhile, his finest TV material spans the spectrum from real-life drama (Quiz, A Very Royal Scandal, Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama) to fantasy (The Sandman, Good omens) and serial killer thrillers (Prodigal Son), legal dramas (The Good Fight) and period dramas (Masters of Sex).

Michael McIntyre’s Big Show is broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
