City of Pawtucket, firefighters unite the Union to fill Deputy Chief Leaders

Pawtucket firefighters’ Union announced Friday that it has agreed with the city’s officials about who would fill the vice manager’s vacant place.

The union said that all vacancies within the assistant managers of the Pawtucket Fire Department will be filled by the Battalion’s manager in an actor capacity in the future.

Late last year, the fire brigade appointed a 22-year-old “beginner” as acting Deputy Head of EMS, which is the third highest ranking position in the department.

At that time, the Union members claimed that the role should be filled by a higher ranking battalion manager.

This disagreement leads to this new protocol.

“Mayor Donald Grebia’s commitment to give the members of Pawtucket Fire Department the resources we need to carry out our mission was a priority throughout this process and we thank him for that,” said Pawtucket -firefighters Local No. 1261 in a statement.
