Alabama legislators move to ban Glock Switches Woodfin says led to Birmingham’s deadliest year

Two bills to ban Glock Switches in the state were approved on Wednesday by the Alabama Senate Committee for the judiciary.

During SB 116performed by Senator Will Barfoot, R-Montgomery, which has any part or combination of parts designed or intended to convert a gun into a machine gun would be a Class C crime, punishable with a semester between 366 days and 10 years, according to state code.

And senator rodger smithmans SB31 would make it a Class C fracture to “consciously have a machine gun, including the frame or recipient of such a weapon, some part intended to convert a firearm into a machine gun (such as a Glock -switch) and parts from which a machine gun can be mounted . ”

Smithman said the tragic September 21 Mass shooting at Birmingham’s Hush Loungewhich killed four and left 17 injuredmotivated him to develop the new legislation.

“We have to remove these people from the streets so that our citizens will not be afraid that if they go anywhere, something will happen to them,” he said.

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin attended the committee meeting and pressed an automatic 10-year prison sentence for possession of a conversion device.

“In Birmingham and in other cities throughout the state, there are too many mourners who have lost their child because of the use of these machine hosts,” he said.

“Too many children have lost parents because of these appliances for machine -gun conversion … Birmingham would not have had its Deadlies Year On Record If these devices had not been used. “

At present, there is no state law that makes Glock Switches illegal, even though they are illegal federally.
