Fantastic region with 70 castles and sandy beaches become the UK’s “most popular” destination | Travel News | Trip

A beautiful but previously underestimated region has become the UK’s best destination for 2025.

Northumberland borders both the North Sea and Scotland and is becoming increasingly popular, according to the latest information from the UK’s rental agency, Holidaycottages.co.uk.

It has an incredible 70 castles and fantastic beaches including the rumbling chern, Beadnell Bay and Ross Back Sands. Recently, Tiktok users who are looking for hidden gems have discovered attractions such as Cragside House and Gardens.

Cragside House is a National Trust website that was originally built by inventor William Armstrong and is considered to be the UK’s first “smart home”, with innovative hydroelectricity and hydraulic systems.

The gardens, which extend over 1,000 acres, were transformed by Armstrong and his wife into a fantasy mountain landscape with constructed lakes, tall trees and lively flower beds.

Visitors, who are known for their charming eateries, picturesque villages and picturesque coastline, can enjoy calm beaches, robust moors, nature reserves for wildlife, traditional tearooms and castles.

Popular places to go in Northumberland include Alnwick, Hexham, Berwick on Tweed and Morpeth.

Alanwick is a medieval town filled with cobbled streets, fantastic gardens with an 1100s castle, which is the second largest inhabited castle in England after Windsor Castle and appeared in the first two Harry Potter films.

If you are looking for some adventure, you can go to Farne Islands outside Northumberland Coast Whcih is rich in history and in wild with seals, puffin and home to hundreds of thousands of seabirds.

Berwick-upon-Tweed has a river that passes through the center along with the impressive Royal Border Bridge, a castle, the UK’s oldest barracks and old remartments.

New Forest came in second place for its charming cities Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst filled with cozy pubs, cafes and local shops and rivers.

Scotland took third place for its natural landscapes with great views, lochs and the highlands.
