Fuoye Sex Scandal: Ekiti Nuj requires immediate release of arrested member

Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nuj, Ekiti State Council, has demanded immediate release of its member allegedly picked up by operators at the Department of State Service, DSS.

The Union made demand on Wednesday at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti after the arrest of one of its members, head of our people’s FM, Yemi Agbeleoba.

The NUJ chairman, comrade Kayode Babatuyi explained that agbeleoba was arrested during the small hours on Wednesday by DSS in connection with the alleged sexual harassment scandal involved in the federal university, Oye-Eciti, Fuoye, prof. Abayomi Fasina Fasina.

NUJ’s chairman, who described DSS’s movement as a deliberate harassment and victims of journalists, condemned the development.

He demanded immediate release of Agbeleoba within 24 hours and failed with which journalists in the state were to blacklist Fuoye.

“We would like to encourage the attention of the public and concerned stakeholders in our dear country in a situation that can best be described as intentional harassment, victims of a member of the Union.

“Last night, a member of our trade union, Dr. Agbeleoba by officers in DSS in their house. As much as we want to appreciate DSS for professionalism as they have actually shown, we express our deep concern and condemn the way that Dr. Agbeleoba was arrested.

“The arrest gave many concerns and raised many questions. We are concerned about why Agbeleoba has not been invited to know quite well that he is a known personality in the Ekiti state.

“We wonder the haste and what could actually have justified the way he was picked up at night in his house yesterday.

“Today we met the Director of DSS and we can confirm for you that Yemi Agberioba is currently in custody of DSS in Ado Ekiti.

“However, from all investigations and indications, the Union can confirm that the arrest of Dr. Yemi Agbeleoba is linked to the current story for sexual harassment against VC in Fuoye, Professor Fasina.

“During our chat with the director, we got to understand that Agbeleoba was arrested because he suspected he was one of the main votes on the WhatsApp platform created in Fuoye which according to them has brought voice against VC.

“The Union urges the management of Fuoye and DSS to release him with immediate effect. Hiding under cyber bumpers to close people will not be tolerated. It is an attempt to sacrifice and cover the case. We want to advise DSS to encourage VC and his loyalist to order, ”said Ekiti Nuj chairman.
