Former England captain Joe Root did not like to return to ODI format on Thursday (Feb 6) after he was dismissed for 19 by Ravindra Jadeja in the opening competition in the three-match series. Root played at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur and returned to the 50-overfold after November 2023 before Jadeja got better for him for the fourth time. After winning the throw, England’s decision first turned out to be right as Philip Salt (43 out of 26) and Ben Duckett (32 out of 29) Syde a partnership of 75 runs for opening wicket. However, it was an excursion that opened the doors to India’s comeback because Salt was dismissed on the ninth fifth ball. The dismissal was followed by Wickets by Duckett and Harry Brook (0) when England went from 75/0 to 77/3.

Root and skipper Jos Buttler (52 out of 67) then sewed a partnership of 34 runs before the former England ship was dismissed by Jadeja. Batting on 19 root was dismissed the leg earlier by the veteran Indian all -round when he put a spanner at work.

England looks to build speed before the Champions Trophy

After losing the T20I series against India 1-4, England will make sure to build speed before the Champions Trophy 2025. The English side has had a good in recent years in the format with limited transitions, after winning the T20 World Cup 2022 and ODI World Cup 2019. The Champions Trophy remains the missing piece in the puzzle, with their best driving in 2004 and 2013, when they were runners.
