Langworthy, Davids introduces the two -party weather warning law | News, sports, jobs

US Rep. Nick Langworthy (R-NY-23) and US Rep. Sharice Davids (D-Can.) Introduced Bipartisan Weather Alert Response and Notification Act (Warn Act) on Thursday. This legislation, which was developed according to the problems that arose during the winter storm Elliott, requests the US controller to conduct a study on the efficiency of local warning systems during severe weather events.

This legislation was previously introduced by Langworthy in the 118th congress where it received a strong two-party support and passed unanimously through the Wife Port and Infrastructure Committee and on the House floor.

“In emergency situations is one of the best things we can do to save lives and mitigate injuries to ensure that there is a correct and reliable public registration system,” Langworthy said. “As we saw with Winter Storm Elliott and countless extreme weather events across the country, effective warning systems are a matter of life and death. This legislation is the first step in replacing inconsistent, fragmented and arbitrary systems to a streamlined process for a correct and consistent nationwide emergency warning system. We came extremely close to getting this bill to become law in the past year, and I am convinced that we will be able to cross the finish line in this new congress. ”

The study would evaluate the effect of current warning systems and investigate new weather warning platforms that are responsible for technical progress. It would also evaluate the efficiency of spreading unique, life -saving warnings during severe weather, including travel bans and area -specific power outages.

“Chancellor knows too well how critical it is to have reliable emergency alerts – whether it is a tornado, a lightning flood or another severe weather event,” David said. “We have seen local cases where sirens did not go off when they should have, and others where they sounded without a real threat, created confusion and undermine confidence in the system. I am proud to join this two -party work to modernize emergency warning system and ensure that our communities get clear, correct and quick warnings when disasters strike. “

There are 17 other original fellow sponsors, including rope. Dan Meuser (R-PA.), Part. James Moylan (R-Guam), Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Aala/), Rep Randy Weber (R-Texas), Rep. Troy Carter (D-LA.), Part.
