Local reacts to second sink hole in Shippensburg

Just weeks after a sink hole on South Queen Street, several families got to evacuate their homes, a second sink hole has been formed on the same street.

“I guess it will be a kind of board meeting or a kind of mental meeting to find out what we can do ahead,” said Shippensburg Local, Nyla Kater. “Hopefully we can get an action plan in place.”

The original sink hole, which was formed on the corner of South Queen Street and Neff Avenue, closed South Queen Street for several hours. Nyla Kater was the first to see and report the hole.

“I was on my way, on my way to South Queen Street on Neff Avenue, I saw it, but I thought it was just a pool of water,” she said. “The closer I got, the faster I realized,” Hello just let me bang on my brakes here. “I backed up a bit and realized that it was not just a pool of water.”

The new sink hole appeared within meters from the first and Kater hopes that the city will have a plan in place if another shows up.

“It’s a sporadic event, it happens,” Kater said. “It’s one of the things that nature wants to take its way. We just have to be ready for it and hopefully everyone is safe as we prepare to fix this forward. “
