Gators Thomas Haugh finds new ways to impress

Gainesville, Fla. – It has been a fantastic second season for Florida Gators forward Thomas Haugh. He has proven not only to be one of the best outside the bench in Sec but also the whole country.

He makes the routine plays about him and more without hesitation. But when you think you have set the right expectations on the shoulders, he defies them.

On Tuesday against Mississippi State, Haugh became the first SEC player since John Wall during the 2010 season who recorded at least 15 points, eight returns, eight assists and several blocks and steals.

“It’s an elite effort for him tonight,” said Gator’s head coach Todd Golden after the match.

His effort during the first six to seven minutes of the second half enabled him to achieve this performance. Haugh was an important component of Gator’s 25-4 driving at the beginning of the second period that helped to blow that wide open for visitors.

During this stretchHaugh recorded four assists, three returns, two three points and two steals.

It is his effort and understanding of what is needed by him every night that has resulted in him doing what he has done for the streets this season. He almost always does the right reading with the ball in his hands and when he is on court he is what makes this team go.

His coach also said something similar after the victory over the Mississippi State.

“… but Tommy is, you know, one of the guys who delivers the heartbeat for this team, and the passion he plays, toughness, texture, to be as stretched as he is to go out and perform on the floor what the coaches want to He’s going to do is everything, ”Golden said after the match.

Take this game, for example. From a Bulldog’s turnover, he has calm to push it down on the floor for a quick break and cut it with a beautiful crown to his teammate for Easy Slam. A year ago, it is difficult to know if he does or not. But now it looks like he has done it all season.

Then, on defense, there is never a question if he could have given a little more. He uses his length very well at that end, and it has led to many blocks and steals.

This is also not an overreaction of his game against Bulldogs. Go and watch his previous match against the No. 1 team in the country.

Last weekend he published 16 points, nine returns, three assists, three blocks and one steal from the bench in the game versus Auburn. In addition, he made game -winning games when the opportunities were presented to him, such as knocking on an offensive recovery for a street’s three to help calm things for his team.

These two performances also came at the perfect time, as this was undoubtedly the season’s biggest two -game route.

But as mentioned, this is not just so late, it has been the whole season for Haugh and the statistics are backing up.

According to Evan Miyakwa’s analysis, Haugh is one of the best sixth men and glue guys in the entire country.

In addition, when at least one of Walter Clayton Jr.Alijah Martin or Will Richard has been paired with Haugh on the court, grades have been soaring, according to CBB Analytics on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Clayton Jr. And Haugh’s two -man lineup is the second best in the entire SEC and has a net fabric of +28.5, an offensive rating of 127.8 and a defensive rating of 99.3.

For the other two, the lineup of Haugh and Richard are the third best in Sec and Martin and Haugh is the sixth best. When Haugh is on court, good things happen for streets.

Haugh has been one of the most underrated players, nationally, all season. But by presenting and in the middle of the stage, it is safe to say that the outside world knows exactly who he is and what he brings to the table every game.
