City of Hansen to take over sewage treatment operations

Hansen, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – About three weeks ago, the city of Hansen was informed by Jacobs that the company will not renew its contract to operate the city’s sewage treatment plant due to a company’s restructuring.

Jacobs will continue to provide services until the end of September.

“They did daily testing and made sure everything meets deq standards and carries these licenses,” said Caleb McCliers, says the public operations director for the city.

McCliers said that the city plans to take over the sewage tasks instead of being agreed with another company.

“It is in our budget to hire the licensed individuals to come in so that the city Hansen can take over the facilities and do what Jacobs has done,” McCliers said.

McCliers explained that making this change will cost the city just over $ 100,000 a year, but that is how much they already pay the services.

While the city prepares the budget information, the current company helps them with the upcoming transition. This includes helping McCliers get his license so that he can help run the facility.

“I have walked around with Jacobs every day and trained at the facilities. So a large part of getting your license is to add adequate hours with experience. So I document those hours and start reading through the books, ”McCliers said.

The city also plans to employ two more people to monitor the sewage system. McCliers said it was needed because the former company had people there at least four to six hours a day, so having extra help is needed to keep the treatment facility going.

McCliers said that when it comes to actually making the change, residents should not expect any problems.

“There will be business as usual. You don’t have to worry about your water quality. You don’t have to worry about our wastewater leaving the city. It will be a smooth transition, ”McCliers said.
