David Armstrong explains Leigh Leopards moves and plays down Bevan French comparisons – Total Rugby League

Leopard’s New signs David Armstrong admits that he is not paying much attention to claims that he is the next Bevan French when he grows up for his first taste of the Super League.

The 23-year-old was signed from Newcastle Knights after he impressed there with five attempts in five performances and Leigh fans hopes that he lives up to all the hype to compare with players like French and Jai Field.

Armstrong insists that he will not listen to the hype.

“I just want to play my own game. I’m not trying to be like anyone here, I just want to be myself, he said.

“If I can achieve half of the things that Bevan has already achieved here, I will do it pretty well. I will play my own game and we will see what happens. “

Armstrong has already been bucking the trend by coming to the Super League at the beginning of his twenties rather than at the rear end of his career.

“Most people come at the end of their career,” added Armstrong.

“But I’ve come over now because I thought it was a good opportunity to play first class every week.

“At home I was waiting to play first class and I thought it was a good opportunity to come here and develop my first class for Leigh.”

Armstrong was unsure whether his move to Leigh would come after he heard nothing after the first interest. Thankfully the move happened and he can’t wait to get started.

“Lammy (Adrian Lam) and Chezzy (Chris Chester) came into contact with my agent and took it up early in the year. I was then left in the dark a little.

“It didn’t look like this would happen until a few months later. Lammy came back in touch and I thought more about it and made sense to come over and give it a shot.

“It happened overnight when they called the second time. So it ended up really fast. “

Armstrong was impressed with what Lam had to say and he has already learned a lot from his head coach.

He added, “I talked to him (lame) on the phone a few times before he came over. Vibe as I got from him by phone was that he cares about his players and he cares about you as a person on and off the pitch.

“That’s all he has been since I’ve come here. You know he cares about his players and it has been fantastic to learn under him. I want to take my game to a next level below him. “
