“People at all hours of the night”

Renewed interest in the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez has reportedly turned the family’s former mansion into an unintended tourist trap, with Beverly Hills Police receiving 18 calls in the past month regarding loud noise and trespassing.

Residents around the Elm Drive home told Los Angeles Times that their once quiet neighborhood has become a magnet for rubberneckers who want a glimpse of the place where the brothers murdered their parents in 1989.

“There are people at all hours of the night,” one resident told the paper. “People are getting out of their cars and blocking our driveway. I didn’t register that (the mansion) was across the street from me. It’s been pretty quiet until the Netflix show came out.”

To make matters worse, multiple videos of the house have appeared on TikTok which serves as a veritable beacon for tourists looking for unique attractions to visit in LA Of course, tour buses also drive past the Mediterranean-style mansion that sold for $17 million in March. The 9,063-square-foot, seven-bedroom house is under renovation so no one lives there.

The paper reported that tourists from as far away as France and South Africa have stopped by the home to take photos – particularly of the famous street address.

“In Italy, the show is very popular,” tourist Fabrizio Serra told LAT. “It’s fascinating to visit this place … something that you always see on the screens … you have the opportunity in real life (to see it).”

Last week, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said he recommended cursing for the siblings. The brothers received life sentences without parole in their second trial in 1996 for the shotgun murders of their parents Jose and Kitty Menendez.

The case of Erik, now 53, and Lyle, 56, received renewed attention from new evidence revealed in a Peacock documentary last year, along with Ryan Murphys nine part Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
