ISRO chief Somanath urges youth to pursue careers in science and technology – ThePrint – PTIFeed

Guwahati, Dec 2 (PTI) Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chairman S Somanath on Monday urged the youth to engage with scientific and technological advancements made by the country so that India can emerge as a global leader in the coming years.

He urged them to pursue careers in science and technology and contribute to the growth of these fields.

Somanath was speaking at a ‘Student Science Interactive Program – Face to Face with New Frontiers in S&T’, as part of the four-day India International Science Festival (IISF) at IIT-Guwahati, which concludes on Tuesday.

The ISRO chairman interacted with school students and inspired them to explore careers in science and technology and pursue innovation in the field of space research, a press release said.

“As students, you are the torchbearers of the future in science and technology. It is important for you to understand the remarkable innovations and advances taking place in these fields today,” he said.

“By recognizing their potential and the opportunities they offer, you can be inspired to follow similar paths and help build a brighter tomorrow,” added Somanath.

He asserted that the youth’s involvement in the country’s current scientific and technological endeavors is critical to realizing the vision of making India a global leader.

The release states that industry-academia collaboration, technical sessions for knowledge sharing and initiatives to inspire students and teachers in creative, knowledge-based learning have been organized as part of IISF.

The event also brought together policy makers and scientific leaders under one roof to discuss sustainable practices in science, agriculture, manufacturing and healthcare, it added.

A major highlight of IISF 2024 was the lab-to-life initiative, where the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) signed three Technology Transfer Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to promote sustainability and technological advancement.

Speaking on technology transfer, C Anandharamakrishnan, Director, CSIR-NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram said, “Young innovators like you have already started building rockets and satellites in colleges, efforts that are approaching commercial success. By understanding these advances and the opportunities in space, science – and the field of technology, you can be inspired to follow similar paths and shape a brighter future.” PTI SSG SSG RG
