Deadly ‘Super Fog’ threatens Super Bowl Sunday in New Orleans

A dangerous “Super Fog” could roll into New Orleans just in time for the Super Bowl Lix, which will be held at the city’s Caesar Superdome Stadium Sunday.

This weather phenomenon occurs when fog drops are mixed with smoke particles, which creates an exceptionally dense fog that causes the visibility to sink to close to zero foot.

The threatening super fog can be the result of hot temperatures, moist air and smoke from a large marsh fire that burns about 30 miles from the big simple.

Although the game will be held indoors, fans traveling to New Orleans to see Kansas City Chiefs may meet the Philadelphia Eagles have a very difficult time to get there because driving conditions can become fatal.

While Super Fog is unusual, it is not unknown, especially in New Orleans. This city usually experiences two Super Fog events per year.

In October 2023, an attack by this dense fog caused a 160 cars on Interstate 55 that left eight people dead and dozens of injured. And in December 2024, the city had a super fog that caused a 40 cars that were in hospital 33 people.

Tourism officials predict about 100,000 people to travel to New Orleans for Super Bowl this weekend.

Meteorologists predict that Super Fog could be formed over southeastern Louisiana for the next two days until and including Super Bowl Sunday.

A video from Fox Weather Correspondent Brandy Campbell showed close, low -lying fog that was already gathered around New Orleans Friday morning.

Smoke from Marsh Fire that burns about 30 miles away in the countryside in St. Charles Parish is what will enable a super fog -up event this weekend.

The Louisiana authorities monitor near the fire, but since it is in severe terrain, there are small firefighters can do to extinguish it before the game day.

Uncertainly warm temperatures is another factor that increases the risk of super fog.

But those who travel home from Big Easy after Sunday were able to meet a storm system that is expected to move through mid-severance at the beginning of next week.
