His hidden bags weighed as much as a bowling ball. They were actually filled with fentanyl.

A Dominican man who acknowledged that he played a role in a drug mill in Philadelphia and then tRansporting Fentanyl to Northern New Jersey was sentenced to five years in prison, says officials with the US law firm on Thursday.

Hector Luiz de la Cruz Nunez, 32, from the Dominican Republic previously appealed to conspiracy to distribute and possession with the intention of distributing, as well as possession with the intention of distributing fentanyl.

Two other men have relied on their involvement in the operation and are waiting to judge, says officials.

The authorities began to investigate a large -scale drug trafficking of a home in Philadelphia in February 2022 where large quantities of fentanyl were moved to northern Jersey, says officials.

Nunez was observed and left the home on March 8, 2022 with large weighted bags and placed them in a secret compartment in his vehicle before driving the car into New Jersey, the authorities said.

Officials stopped Nunez in the Union County and found four large wrapped bricks, each contained about 100 packages individually wrapped fentanyl, according to the authorities.

In total, Nunez was caught with almost six kilos or about 13 kilos of fentanyl, according to officials.

In addition to a prison time, Nunez must also spend three years under supervised release, says officials.

After guilty, Nunez’s lawyer said, Justin Capek said his client “accepted full responsibility for his limited role in conspiracy.”

Capek said Thursday that the verdict was fair considering Nunez’s “background and personal characteristics” and was not exaggerated.
