Sioux City Community School District is hosting the public forum to hear from two superintendent finalists

Sioux City (KTIV) – Sioux City Community School District is closer to selecting the district’s next superintendent to replace the departing Dr. Rod Earleywine. On Friday, the school board will choose between Dr. Juan Córdova and Dr. Corey Seymour.

Thursday evening, the two finalists had the chance to talk to the members of the community during a forum.

First, the public heard from Dr. Juan Córdova, who is the assistant superintendent for instruction for the Hazelwood School District in Florissant, Missouri.

Dr. Córdova, who learned English as a second language, talked about the importance of ELL programs in schools that teach English students the language while they did not lose their mother tongue.

Dr. Córdova said that an opportunity, such as the Superintendent’s job in Sioux City, would “satisfy his need to serve”.

“I really want to serve society in a way that gives them what they want from their children, and what they want from their children is that they succeed. To do that, you have to build a system that starts very young and then work its way from there, “Dr. Córdova. “And in this work on the way up, it allows students to gather that information, skills and abilities to succeed in life; Which is what any parent wants. “

The other finalist is Dr. Corey Seymour. Dr. Seymour is the superintendent of the Clear Creek Aman School District in Oxford, Iowa.

Among other questions he talked about the importance of holding art programs in schools, he also talked about his previous educational experience.

In previous school districts, Dr. Seymour that he created initiatives that increased students’ performance and improved teaching.

“You have to make people feel that they belong to, that you need them, that they are important, that they have a voice. And our teachers, give them “why” to do things and let them know how much you need them; Teachers are the basis for all school areas, and we have to make sure they understand it and realize it, ”Dr. Seymour. “And more than anything else, give them the support they need.”

Friday morning at 10:30 the school board will meet to discuss the two finalists in a closed session. They will then vote for both candidates during a public meeting.
