Rasmus Hojlund: Why does Manchester United’s No. 9 fight for goals this season? | Football news

A year ago, Rasmus Hojlund became the youngest player ever to score in six consecutive Premier League games.

A year later, Dane has gone 14 games in all competitions without scoring, nine Premier League matches have come and gone during that run, without a single goal.

Hojlund’s return for this season’s league campaign is just as overwhelming with a total of only two. But after promising signs in their first season, why has Hojlund’s form shot massively?

The 22-year-old has been Ruben Amorim’s preferred alternatives in the middle since the Portuguese took over at Old Trafford in November. In all except one of Amorim’s first 13 Premier League excursions, Hojlund has also started eight of these games. However, the faith shown in United No. 9, from his manager, has not translated into production.

Amorim’s arrival had United fans who dreamed of what possible impact he could have on Hojlund. Comparisons were designed with Viktor Gyokores, which during Amorim, developed into one of Europe’s most sought after in the middle.

Hojlund generates the other at least XG in Premier League this season

On the eye, the couple shares some parallels as willing runners and strikers who enjoy a physical battle but at present, comparisons end at the superficial level.

Among the Premier League strikers who have played at least 432 minutes this season (32), Hojlund takes the smallest shots per match. Hojlund is also at the bottom two for XG, with 0.20 generated per match.

His six-goal drive in the Premier League came after a 14-match long wait for its first in the English top flight. The driving embodied what he can be as a striker, with a lot of goals, some as a poacher while others showed calm, where he could find a farm for himself before sending a finish.

This term, a criticism that is equal to the young striker is that he has struggled to find the right positions on the pitch to maximize potential opportunities. With only five 2.83 touches per 90 minutes played in the opposition area this season in the Premier League, Hojlund is ranked among those with the least.

In January, Amorim admitted that Rasmus Hojlund’s problems in front of goals are not exclusively a Hojlund problem.

“I think it’s more a team problem than a Rasmus problem,” Amorim said.

“You can see it, it’s not just from now, it’s from the past. So we clearly have a lack of goals and lack of threats.

“All players have moments during this season. I think when we started this journey together was Rasmus the player who always scored.”

Hojlund’s misery in front of the goal has also entered him which shows his frustrations on the pitch. In particular, United signed £ 72 million in an heated line with Amad Diallo during United’s 2-1 Europa League victory against Viktoria Plzen after the wing chose to go for goals rather than playing the ball to Hojlund.

Again, during United’s FA Cup victory over Leicester, Alejandro Garnacho’s decision to shoot from a narrow angle, rather than playing the ball in the box, Hojlund saw that his frustrations would be known again. It is behavior that Amorim believes that his striker must embrace.

“I think it’s good. I won’t say a word bad about this kind of behavior,” Amorim said after the match.

“He must understand that he sometimes has to do a job without touching the ball.

“He can’t be so frustrated because in the next game he may have a situation close to the goal. So he must be calm.

“But this is a character, and if you know so many players from the type of character he has from that country, they always want more. They want to score points they know the critics.

“So it’s good, but he will be improved. And a striker needs a very good team to deliver very good balls for him, and we are not helping our strikers right now.”

As much as Hojlund is fighting in front of the goal, United’s forward struggles to find their center forward. United Captain Bruno Fernande’s creative number while they are favorable, does not necessarily tell the story of what is happening on the pitch.

Fernandes has tried the second most last third passes and has created the fourth most chances in the Premier League, but United’s focus on wider areas has a malicious impact on Hojlund’s number.

Manchester United’s broad players have struggled to create for his middle forward this season

Despite an over -confidence on either flank, it is clear that United’s broader players must change their focus in order to let Hojlund thrive.

The high price tag meant that the responsibility for leading the line for United was always a high task. Now without confidence, Hojlund has entered the territory where he will be desperate to find the back of the net. Tottenham on Sunday, who felt that a widespread Hojlund on his sex goal, can only offer that opportunity, live on Sports.
